چکیده

Acridine orange (AO) is a known radiation sensitizer, and concomitant local administration of AO and irradiation (5 Gy) after cytoreductive surgery results in good local control of musculoskeletal sarcomas in humans. Local administration of AO solution into the surgical field can act directly on residual tumor cells, and it is thought that systemic administration of AO may affect tumor cells invading neighboring tissues. However, the toxicity of AO and concomitant X-ray irradiation is not well described. The purpose of the present study was to evaluate the safety of intravenous (IV) administration of AO (1 mg/kg) and simultaneous radiotherapy in

Determination of the LD50 of acridine orange via intravenous administration in mice in preparation for clinical application to cancer therapy.

AIM We undertook studies to determine the lethal dose 50 (LD50) of acridine orange (AO) using mice in order to confirm the safety of intravenous administration of AO. MATERIALS AND METHODS We used 40 mice and AO was administered once intravenously. General behavior and mortality were continuously observed for 14 days. At the end of the experiment, all animals were sacrificed for subsequent st...

Effects of N-acetylcysteine on life shortening induced by chronic low dose-rate gamma-ray exposure in mice

Background: The development of methods to alleviate radiation-induced health effects is important for the practical use of radiation therapy and for understanding the molecular mechanisms mediating these effects. Here, we examined the protective capability of N-acetylcysteine (NAC) on life-shortening effects induced by continuous low dose-rate gamma-ray exposure in mice. Materials and Methods: ...

P-144: Evaluating The Role of Long-Term Administration of Methamphetamine on Sperm Motility, Acrosome Reaction and Chromatin Packaging

Background: This study investigated the probable effects of daily administration of methamphetamine (MA) on sperm motility, acrosome reaction (AR), acridine orange (AO), sperm chromatin dispersion (SCD) test and chromomycin A3 (CMA3) in mice. Materials and Methods: Twenty four NMRI male mice were administrated three different doses of MA intraperitoneally (n=6 in each group). Different doses of...

Administration of high dose of methamphetamine has detrimental effects on sperm parameters and DNA integrity in mice

BACKGROUND Methamphetamine (MA) was shown to have harmful effects on male reproductive system. OBJECTIVE To investigate probable effects of daily administration of MA on sperm parameters and chromatin/DNA integrity in mouse. MATERIAL AND METHODS Thirty-five NMRI male mice were divided into five groups including low, medium, and high dosage groups which were injected intraperitoneally with 4...

Trabecular bone changes induced by fast neutrons versus gamma rays in mice

Background: The trabecular bone changes in the tibia of C3H/HeN mice were measured 12 weeks after whole body irradiation with various doses of fast neutrons (0-2.4 Gy) or 137Cs-generated gamma-rays (0-6 Gy). Materials and Methods: Serum calcium, phosphorus, estradiol concentration and alkaline phosphatase activity were measured. Tibiae were anal...
